“Millard F. Tillery, my grandfather. Born May 12, l857, in Gower, Missouri. Married Huldah Catherine Beck in Gower, Missouri on September 21, 1884. Five children: Maud, Myrtle, Tom, Harry, Elsie. Cattleman and rancher, Montrose County, Colo. Served two terms as Montrose County Sheriff. Star he wears here is that of City Marshal. Retired to Long Beach, California, where he died in 1935. The photograph here was taken in 1909 and is inscribed: “To: Elsie – From Daddie – Aug. 14, ’09.”

“Our house at 1124 Gunnison Avenue, Grand Junction, Colorado. Canvas curtains enclosing part of front porch served (for sleeping purposes only) as a second bedroom. Later, my father added a bedroom to the west side of the house where the awnings now may be seen. I slept on the sleeping porch until I left for college in the autumn of 1924 (U. of Colorado for one year). Passing through Grand Junction from Boulder, Colorado en route to Los Angeles to which my parents had moved in 1925, I saw the house and town for the last time (1925). Child with me is my cousin, Carolyn Budelier. This snapshot was taken in 1909. I was 4.”
