Rules of Behavior

The following activities are prohibited behavior on property and in facilities under the control of Mesa County Public Library District.

Engaging in disorderly conduct, harassment, or behavior that causes or creates an actual or imminent material interference with the quiet, peaceful, or orderly use and management of the library by patrons and employees.

The making of noise, such as loud talking or shouting, or engaging in boisterous behavior, such as running, throwing things, pushing or shoving, all in a matter that causes or creates an actual or imminent material interference with the quiet, peaceful, or orderly use and management of the library by patrons and employees.

Bringing any dangerous weapon in the library unless otherwise permitted by law.

Engaging in behavior that creates an unsafe environment for patrons or employees of library facilities.

Bringing food or beverages in open containers into library facilities except by authorized groups using library meeting rooms and library employees in designated areas.

Viewing of inappropriate Internet sites on library-owned computers.

Interfering with others' use of library facilities because of poor personal hygiene.

Making use of restrooms for purposes other than their intended use, including but not limited to bathing, shaving, washing hair, or washing clothing.

Sleeping on library property and in library buildings.

Using furniture, materials, or equipment in a manner inconsistent with its proper and intended use.

Interfering with, obstructing, or blocking free passage on library property is prohibited.

Failing to keep personal belongings to oneself.

Bringing animals, other than certified assistive animals, into library facilities.

Leaving children under the age of 11 unattended in the library.

Smoking or chewing tobacco on library property including grounds and buildings except in designated areas.

Failure to comply with established rules of behavior may result in denial of library privileges.

These rules shall be applied in a neutral and nondiscriminatory manner. These rules shall apply to all buildings, interior and exterior, and to all grounds and property of Mesa County Public Library District and to all persons entering into or on the premises. On the premises, violation of any Federal, State, or local laws will be regarded as a violation of library rules. Persons who violate these rules may be excluded from the premises and library privileges revoked.
