The Literacy Center offers FREE Literacy Programs
For adults: Free one-to-one, small group, and classroom instruction for adults to improve reading and writing skills, build math skills, study for the GED, study for Citizenship and learn English as a Second Language. Volunteer tutors are trained to help adults learn. Literacy and English language learning using the computer is also available.
For families: We offer classes and workshops for at-risk families with one or more young child (age birth to 5). Available workshops include: Read with Your Child, Family Nights at the Library, and Help Your Child Learn. We also offer English reading and beginning computer classes, which parents and children attend together.
Come join us for story time at the Daily Sentinel Play Area at Mesa Mall at 11 am on Friday mornings.
For organizations and schools serving at-risk families with young children: The Literacy Center can schedule literacy-oriented workshops for at-risk families your organization serves or for your staff. Call us for more information.
For community groups, service organizations, clubs: Representatives of The Literacy Center are happy to conduct presentations for your group on the problem of illiteracy in our community. We can provide statistics and facts about illiteracy and its impact on our world plus provide more information on our services.
Donate to literacy: Mesa County Libraries supports only about 60% of The Literacy Center's operating costs. We depend upon grants and private donations to continue to provide these important free services to our community.
